College Recruitment Federal Rules / Policy in the works.

It's not always obvious, but yes, there is the possibility that college presentations can be aggressive sales pitches for "for-profit" colleges. The White House announces new federal regulations are in the works.

"Colleges would no longer be allowed to pay recruiters for students or engage in aggressive or misleading recruitment under proposed new federal regulations that target the practices of for-profit colleges."

Inside the AP Testing Debate

No high-school program has grown as quickly, or to such massive proportions, as Advanced Placement (AP) in the last two decades. It now sets the academic agenda for almost all of the best high schools and is virtually required for any student who wants to get into a selective college. But it is also becoming very popular with administrators of our worst high schools, who think that even students below grade level can build needed academic muscle by struggling in a college-level AP or International Baccalaureate course (IB). Many of them flunk the AP and IB exams. Is there no better way to help them improve?

Jump In College Enrollment Highest in 40 yrs.

"...Newly released government figures show that freshman enrollment surged 6 percent in 2008 to a record 2.6 million, mostly due to rising minority enrollment. That is the highest increase since 1968 during the height of the Vietnam War, when young adults who attended college could avoid the military draft.
Almost three-quarters of the freshman increases in 2008 were minorities..."
